Who We Are...

Transitions Family Violence Services is a nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating domestic violence in Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson and York County.

We are the sole provider of comprehensive services to adult and child victims of domestic violence. Since 1977, we have been a pathway to safety and a source of hope for thousands of individuals and families.

Impact of our work

NIGHTS OF SHELTER PROVIDED

We have been able to provide 5,415 nights of emergency shelter to individuals and families impacted by domestic violence

3,000+

HOURS OF ADVOCACY 

We have been proud to provide 1,210 adults, who received 3600 hours of domestic violence advocacy. 

1,000+

CRISIS CALLS RESPONDED TO

We have been at the precipice of crisis with 1,193 calls answered on our 24 hour crisis hotline.

Programs

Transitions Family Violence Services offers free comprehensive crisis services for survivors of domestic abuse and their families. We serve women, men and children from Newport News, Poquoson and York County. Participation in our programs are free and confidential.

 

Court Advocacy Program

Navigating through the legal system can be difficult and confusing. Transitions Family Violence Services provides assistance to individuals experiencing domestic violence, stalking or human trafficking in Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson and York County.

 

 

HOUSING SERVICES

Transitions Family Violence Services offers emergency shelter at an undisclosed location for adults and children fleeing domestic violence. The emergency shelter offers a trauma-informed supportive environment focused on healing. Survivors can access care coordination, counseling, safety planning and
community resources.

Counseling Program

Counseling can be instrumental in helping a survivor overcome the trauma experienced in an abusive relationship and move forward. Counseling is available for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault or stalking whether it occurred recently or in the past.  Sessions are offered to individuals and groups.

 

 

cOMMUNITY eDUCATION & training

We believe that knowledge is key and that together with an informed community we can eliminate domestic violence. We strive to engage, educate and inspire community members to join us in this belief. We offer a range of free trainings, presentations and workshops to spread awareness about domestic violence.
