Become a volunteer to make a difference in the lives of families.

Volunteering for Transitions will not only change your life, it will help to change the lives of children and adults who have been affected by domestic violence.

Your time, talents and caring can help someone regain their self-esteem and independence. When you volunteer at Transitions, you're helping someone take control of their life and that of their children through a variety of support services. In whatever capacity you serve, you'll be helping to curb the cycle of abuse that threatens our community and society.

The volunteer program is a vital component of our services.  Our approximately 120 volunteers provide more than 120,000 hours of service annually and have received more than a dozen awards for excellence.

Transitions can train you for service in a variety of areas, from work in the shelter to community education. The shelter program is in need of caring, dedicated volunteers who will commit several hours of their time each week to give support, information and effective referral services. To become a volunteer, you must be at least 18 years of age and be willing to submit to a criminal background check. We provide 24 hours of free classroom training – plus hands on experience – to orient you to the agency and our work.

Give a little of yourself -- what you get back is immeasurable.

Ways that you can volunteer:

  • 24-hour HOTLINE or shelter shift worker

  • REACH and Protect Our Kids (children's program worker)

  • Office assistance

  • Speaker’s bureau and Community Awareness

  • Legal advocate

  • Transportation aides
